How does a devoted husband say “I love you” to a wife and lifelong friend who has passed away after a long, happy and productive life?
One way is to keep the spirit of his wife’s life alive, through the establishment of an endowed scholarship.
Joseph F. Braun of Joplin is such a husband.
He has endowed The Carolyn Bowman Braun Memorial Scholarship in memory of his late wife, who passed away last July.
The endowment will provide scholarships to MSSU students who are Missouri residents and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree.
“This scholarship will help the memory of Mrs. Braun endure in the lives of future MSSU students,” said JoAnn Graffam, Vice President for Development and Executive Director of the Missouri Southern Foundation
The scholarship was endowed in February.
Completing the endowment by Valentine’s Day held a special significance for Mr. Braun, who was engaged to his wife on Feb. 14, 1961.
“I wanted to find a way to show her that I will always remember our commitment,” Mr. Braun says.
She was born in Stella and graduated as Salutatorian from Stella High School in 1956. She later attended Dayton Community College in Dayton, Ohio.
Carolyn was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Joplin.
