MSSU is working in conjunction with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Missouri School Plant Managers Association (MSPMA) to offer a free, two-day professional development opportunity for education support staff on June 24-25 at Billingsly Student Center.
All schools from across the state are invited to participate.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Certificates will be presented at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Room 335 of Billingsly Student Center.
At these workshops, instructors trained in various support staff disciplines, i.e., housekeeping, maintenance and repairs, HVAC, grounds keeping and support staff supervision, will conduct classes, illustrating techniques, strategies and protocols for dealing with scenarios typical to education environments. They also will provide solutions for producing facility support that assists in the success of the education process.
Workshops are held in five locations across the state. This year the locations are at Jefferson City, Sikeston, Hillsboro, St. Joseph and Joplin.
Mike Fox, Missouri Southern Maintenance Tech Supervisor, coordinates the workshop at MSSU.
“I feel that these workshops provide a worthwhile service to participants by providing them with opportunities to interact with trained instructors and their peers from across the state,” he says. “These professionals have common goals and will benefit greatly from the classes at Missouri Southern.”
MSSU has hosted the event for the last several years. An increasing number of K-12 school districts, as well as physical plant support staffs from several higher education institutions, has attended each year.
Last year, 20 different educational entities with 120 individual attendees took part. Based on advance reservations, 25-30 schools will participate this year.
