The only concert presented by the Missouri Southern State University Choral Society this summer will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 28 at the First Baptist Church, Broadway and Roane Streets in Webb City.
The focus of the performance is a large-scale patriotic work entitled “Liberty! A Musical Celebration of Freedom.”
The performance honors all who have ever been members of the Armed Forces. The Webb City High School JROTC Color Guard will be participating in the musical.
The concert is also considered part of MSSU’s recent 75th Anniversary Celebration.
The 40-voice mixed ensemble will also sing Baroque composer Henry Purcell’s joyous “Trumpets Sound Forth,” based on a paraphrase of Psalm 150.
In keeping with the patriotic theme, piano accompanist Eleanor McLemore will play a special arrangement of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
The choir is directed by Dr. Al Carnine, professor of music at MSSU.
The performance is open to the public without charge.
