SouthernSolesMembers of “Southern Soles” — a summer training class that offered a “couch from 5K approach” to running took part in the Blue Moon 5K in Joplin the evening of Saturday, August 10.

Southern Soles was led by Kayla Fritz, who was completing an internship at Missouri Southern’s Beimdiek Recreation Center. Kayla was an intern in Recreational Services after obtaining a degree in Health Promotion and Wellness.  She began her internship in May.

The group began runs Monday through Thursday on June 3 and wrapped up training in the class on July 26.

“My class was very dedicated and committed to the Couch Potato to 5K Training Class,” Fritz says. “Over the summer, we all developed a bond with one another and became like family to me. I am very proud of each and everyone that decided to make a change for the better.”
