Clarinets in Italy and Jazz with an Italian Touch will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 in Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall on the campus of Missouri Southern State University. Admission is free.

Clarinetists of Missouri Southern will present Italian clarinet works they discovered while attending International ClarinetFest 2013 in Assisi, Italy, July 24-28.

Each work was chosen because it reminds the students of a particular memory while in Italy. Zach Pettit, junior vocal music education major from Webb City, will introduce the pieces and the performers. Many of the works in this concert were also performed during a benefit recital to help those in the Moore, Oklahoma, tornado. Dr. Cheryl Cifelli, director of woodwind studies at MSSU, will perform Elegy by Busoni.

Led by Dr. Phillip C. Wise, director of jazz studies at MSSU, The Joplin Jazz Collective will perform a number of jazz standards in the style of guitarist Django Reinhardt.

The ensemble will also present some interesting guitar and piano Italian tunes transformed into jazz coupled with a few contemporary jazz pieces that could be heard in Italian jazz clubs today.
