Boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, boy and girl get married, boy and girl have children and children are named. How do these play out in the Akan and Ga cultures in Ghana?
The Diversity Committee will present a program on the Ghanaian traditions and naming ceremonies from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, in Room 309 of Billingsly Student Center. Faustina Abrahams and Dr. Nii Abrahams will be the presenters. Those attending who know the day of the week on which they were born may be given their Ghanaian traditional day name.
The event is planned in celebration of Black History Month. A Southern lunch menu will be served, along with a Ghanaian treat.
Seating is limited for the program, which is open to faculty and staff. To RSVP, call 625-9324 or email firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday, Feb. 12.
