The jazz combos will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in Corley Auditorium. The concert will feature three student combos – along with vocalists Devri Brock and Brooke Henry – performing a variety of jazz selections.

They will perform again at 6 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Gusano’s Pizza, 3929 E. Seventh St. It will feature the same student musicians as Thursday’s performance. Those interested in attending are encouraged to make advanced reservations by calling Gusano’s at 623-9090. Be sure to request seating near the performance area.

“This is an opportunity for people in the community to listen to our jazz combos in a more relaxed atmosphere,” said Dr. Phillip C. Wise, director of jazz studies. “I encourage folks to come out and relax and enjoy a pizza and listen to some jazz.”

The Southern Jazz Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in Corley Auditorium. It will feature a variety of big band jazz music and vocalist Devri Brock.

The performance will also showcase professional jazz saxophonist Wesley Smith, a native of Joplin and a graduate of Missouri Southern. During his performing career, Smith has shared the stage with many artists and Grammy Award winners, including the Osmonds, Debbie Boon, B.J. Thomas, the Lennon Sisters and Marvin Hamlisch. Smith currently performs as a woodwind player on the Branson Belle in Branson, Mo.

All three performances are free and open to the public.
