Founded in 2011 by Ozan Cemali, the group features its leader on baglama (a Turkish folk instrument) along with multi-instrumentalist Dena El Saffar, drummer Tim Moore and vocalist/instrumentalist Tomas Lozano. Istanbul Breeze has performed at Turkish Embassy events and numerous university and community venues.

Their performances mix traditional music with folk and rock rhythms.

They will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. At 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, band members will discuss the history and traditions of Turkish music, followed by a farewell performance at noon (also in Corley Auditorium).

Offered as part of the Turkey Semester, the events are free and open to the public. For a complete listing of activities, visit www.mssu.edu/turkey/.
