The September exhibit at the Post Memorial Art Reference Library (located inside Joplin Public Library) is “Mathematical Sculptures,” featuring works by Lyle Welch.
Welch, an adjunct math instructor at Missouri Southern who also teaches part-time at Ozark Christian College, creates works that demonstrate the artistic beauty of mathematical principles. The exhibit includes works that make use of a variety of materials, including rubber bands, dowel rods, fishing line, bolts and rivets.
The exhibit can be viewed from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Examples of his work can be viewed at www.postlibrary.org.
