Joplin, MO (SNS) – From a celebration of National Weatherman Day to a performance by a comedian featured recently on Comedy Central and a free film screening, there are a number of events planned for the coming week at Missouri Southern State University.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 4

Wellness Wednesday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Lion’s Den in Billingsly Student Center. Come join us in making Valentine fortune cookies in honor of Heart Health Awareness Week.

Grocery Bingo: 12 p.m., Lion’s Den in Billingsley Student Center. Students can stop by the Lion’s Den to play bingo and a chance to win a bag of free groceries courtesy of the Campus Activities Board. 

THURSDAY, FEB. 5 

National Weatherman Day Photo Booth: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Billingsly Student Center. Happy National Weatherman Day! Students can test their skills as a weatherman skills in front of a green screen!

Health Hut: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lion’s Den in Billingsly Student Center. The Wellness Department will offer free giveaways during the weekly event.

Career Services Walk-In Workshop: 12 to 3 p.m., Career Services Office, second floor of Spiva Library. Stop by the workshop for career and resume advice, assistance creating or editing your resume, assistance researching careers, information on job shadowing and internships, or resume printing. All services and printing are available free of charge; no appointment is needed.

 “The Normal Heart”: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre in Billingsly Student Center. The 2014 film depicts the rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City, as seen through the eyes of a writer/activist who founded a prominent advocacy group. Admission is free; snacks will be provided.

FRIDAY, FEB. 6

Track & Field – MSSU Lion Open: All day; Fred G. Hughes Stadium.

Nick Guerra: 7 p.m., Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall. Guerra – aka “The Little Long Haired Comic” – has blasted onto the comic scene and has quickly become one of the most memorable comedians you will ever see. Presented by the Campus Activities Board, admission is free and open to the public.

SATURDAY, FEB. 7

Track & Field – MSSU Lion Open: All day; Fred G. Hughes Stadium. Men’s and women’s events will be featured.

SUNDAY, FEB. 8

Track & Field – MSSU Lion Open: All day; Fred G. Hughes Stadium. Men’s and women’s events in the high-school division will be featured.
