Joplin, MO (SNS) – A Pulitzer Prize-winning play about three young Mississippi sisters will be staged next week at Missouri Southern State University.

“Crimes of the Heart,” which won a Pulitzer in 1981, will serve as a showcase for the actresses in the university’s theater department. It features several first-year students and others who have not been on the stage before.

Other events scheduled for the coming week include two business workshops, basketball games and tours of the fine arts program for prospective students.

TUESDAY, JAN. 27

Blood drive: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Billingsly Student Center’s Connor Ballroom. The Community Blood Center blood drive is open to the public.

National Chocolate Cake Day: 10:30 a.m. in the Lions Den. Come celebrate (while supplies last) with some free cake provided by the Campus Activities Board.

How to Write a Successful Business Plan: 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Room 108 of Plaster Hall. The workshop, hosted by the Small Business & Technology Development Center, will teach participants the key elements of a business plan. Cost is $39 per person. To register, visit www.mssutraining.com.

“Crimes of the Heart”: 7:30 p.m., Bud Walton Theatre. Tickets are $3 for senior citizens, $1 for non-MSSU students and free for faculty, staff and students. Box office hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Health Hut: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lions Den. The Wellness Wednesday event will allow students to create their own healthy soup.
