Joplin, MO (SNS) – A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at the newly renovated MSSU Aquatics & Racquetball Center on the first floor of Young Gymnasium.
Representatives from the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to conduct the ribbon-cutting.
The entire pool area and locker rooms have been repainted, windows in the hallway have been frosted, new equipment has been purchased and new signage displayed, said Heather Arnold, the university’s director of aquatics and wellness.
“We started last August and still have a little bit more to do,” said Arnold. “But we want to take this opportunity to showcase the work we’ve done so far and let the public know about some of the aquatic programs that are available to them.”
Upcoming activities include adult and child swim lessons for ages 6 months to 5 years old, May 11-21; a lifeguard certification, April 17-19; water safety instructor certification, May 14 and 16; and a SCUBA class planned for Fall 2015.
Tours of the Aquatics & Racquetball Center will be offered starting at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. Refreshments will be available after the ribbon-cutting.
