Joplin, MO (SNS) – Ten medics with the 184th Medical Group, Kansas Air National Guard have arrived at Missouri Southern State University today for several days of training.
The medics from McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kan., will be training with EMS staff from Missouri Southern as well as guest lecturers from Mercy Hospital Springfield’s burn unit and Life Line, the hospital’s air transport service for emergency patients.
“It’s a refresher training,” said Brett Peine, director of the EMS Department at Missouri Southern. “They’ll go through trauma training, pediatrics, obstetrics, medical emergencies, lifting and moving … a little bit of everything.”
On Friday, June 26, the medics will be working in the SimLab on the third floor of the Julio S. León Health Sciences Center. On Saturday, June 27, they will participate in patient care scenarios with volunteers in makeup acting as emergency patients.
The training will conclude at 10 a.m. Sunday.
