Joplin, MO (SNS) – The Missouri Southern Foundation has announced the formation of the Dan Stengel Accounting Scholarship at Missouri Southern State University.
This scholarship was endowed by a donation from a former student who wishes to remain anonymous. The former student wanted to honor Stengel for instilling a love of numbers during the student’s coursework in accounting and finance. This financial background was instrumental in the donor’s very successful business career.
Stengel, who holds a graduate degree from the University of Nebraska, was one of the original School of Business faculty members when Missouri Southern moved to the Mission Hills campus. He started teaching accounting and finance courses in 1967 and continued for the next eight years. He then left the business faculty and transitioned into public accounting.
Before his retirement as partner from Baird, Kurtz & Dobson, he was well known in the region and across the state for his expertise in the field of tax accounting.
Stengel and his wife, Jeanette, are the parents of five children. He continues to be active on numerous boards and committees.
