Joplin, MO (SNS) – A total of 74 students accepted the invitation to join Alpha Chi during an induction ceremony held Oct. 25 at Missouri Southern State University.
The induction ceremony included welcome remarks and an introduction by Dr. Wendy McGrane, assistant vice president for academic affairs, and an address by Dr. Paula Carson, provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Faculty members taking part in the ceremony included Dr. Wendy McGrane and Dr. Michael Garoutte, chapter sponsors; Dr. James E. Lile, assistant sponsor; and Mrs. Kelly E. Wilson and Dr. Richard Miller, ex officio.
The coeducational society promotes and honors academic excellence and exemplary character among college a nd university students. Its name derives from the initial letters of the Greek words Aletheia, meaning truth, and Xarakter, meaning character.
To be eligible for the organization, juniors or seniors must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 or above. Each inductee receives a recognition pin and a membership certificate.
Alpha Chi has existed since 1922 and has been affiliated with the Association of College Honor Societies since 1955.
