JOPLIN, MO – Colt Craig, Collegiate DECA president at Missouri Southern State University, numbered among first place winners at the recent 2015 Collegiate DECA Leadership Academy in New York City.
Collegiate DECA is an international organization that engages students from a variety of educational disciplines while maintaining strong focus on business-related areas such as marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.
Craig, a sophomore management major from Webb City, attended the Academy to gain leadership experience and network with other students and professionals.
Teams were chosen after students arrived in New York City. The Sports Entertainment and Event Management team consisted of Craig and team members from universities in Colorado, Illinois, Texas, and Wisconsin.
The competitors first spent a day touring the Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils NHL team, and Yankee Stadium. During the tours they learned about what it takes to market and execute events and activities at these sport venues.
Following the tour, the teams had less than three hours to work on a team case study and prepare an executive summary to present the next day. Colt and his team won first place out of eight teams in the Sports Entertainment and Event Management category.
“It was a great experience and I enjoyed the opportunities to network with students from around the country and representatives from nationally recognized companies,” Craig stated.
