Joplin, MO (SNS) – Seniors in the Industrial Engineering Technology Department at Missouri Southern State University will present their capstone projects at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, and April 29.

For the projects, students apply their technical and non-technical knowledge to actual industrial problems. Participating companies this year include FAG Bearing, Able Manufacturing, Ducommun, Justin Brands, Joplin Workshop, Malone’s CNC, and Flex-O-Lators (Leggett & Platt Inc.). The projects include identification of problems, objectives, financial benefits, activity plan, customer analysis, data collection and analysis, generation and evaluation of solutions and, where possible, development of systems improvement.

Students use the Six Sigma DMAIC model to manage their projects. Some students used their capstone projects to earn Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Missouri Southern offers Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt certification workshops for professional development to industry professionals in the summer. For information, contact Dr. Elke Howe at Howe-E@mssu.edu.
