Nearly 30 freshmen students attended the first “Roary’s Declassified College Survival Guide” event on Aug. 19.
It offered helpful tips and information that students needed to know before school started, said Teresa Thompson, director of the First-Year Experience program.
“For instance, sometimes students don’t realize they need to check their schedules again because classrooms have changed,” she said. “We also talked about reaching out for tutoring, and getting a fresh start toward developing good study habits. It was presented in a quick, popcorn-type atmosphere and students could ask any question that popped into their head.”
Also speaking during the presentation were Josh Doak, director of Residence Life, and Stephanie Hopkins, director of the Student Success Center. A scavenger hunt and an open house at the Beimdiek Recreation Center were also offered.
Thompson plans to make the “Roary’s Declassified” event an annual presentation.
