HR Training: Sessions on retirement planning and monthly Title IX training scheduled

A Day of Retirement Planning and Prep

According to a recent poll conducted by the Economic Policy Institute, nearly half of today’s working-age families do not contribute to a retirement account.  And while some of us may be able to draw Social Security benefits, financial advisors and retirement experts agree Social Security will not be enough for most Americans to maintain their current standard of living during retirement.  We all want a future that’s worth looking forward to; so what do you need to know, and what should you be doing now, to ensure you are prepared for those “golden years”?

HR Training has partnered with VALIC, a leader in administering tax-favored retirement programs, to address these and other retirement-minded questions.  VALIC representative Matt Ticknor will be on campus Tuesday, February 28 hosting retirement group sessions as well as offering multiple one-on-one meetings with University personnel.

Retirement Planning Process: Before, During & After, offered at 11:00 AM & 2:00 PM in BSC 343, will focus on the retirement process and educate attendees on how to get started, what to do while saving for retirement, and the necessary steps to take after their working years are over.

Retirement/Financial Security for Women, scheduled for 12:30 PM in BSC 343, will focus on how retirement planning is different for women and what gender-specific financial challenges this demographic may face in their future.

One-on-One Meetings will be offered from 9AM-11AM and 3PM-5PM with the average meeting lasting 45 minutes.

If you’re interested in signing up for one of the above retirement planning sessions or would like to schedule a one-on-one meeting with Matt to discuss specific retirement questions, contact HRtraining@mssu.edu!  All session attendees and those who meet with Matt one-on-one will be entered into a drawing to win a free Fit Bit Flex courtesy of Human Resources!

Monthly Title IX Training

HR Training will be hosting the March monthly Title IX training on Thursday, March 2nd from Noon-1PM in BSC 343.  Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law that protects individuals from sexual discrimination in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance.  To ensure MSSU is operating in a nondiscriminatory manner and all University personnel are aware of Southern’s prevention resources and comply with associated policies and procedures, annual training is required of all MSSU faculty and staff.

Monthly Title IX training is held the first Thursday of the month for those who were unable to make it to the annual training or are new to campus.  An online course is available to faculty members via Blackboard, details on when this course are now available in Blackboard course offerings.

To reserve a seat for the March monthly Title IX training, contact HRtraining@mssu.edu.

Note: University personnel only need to attend Title IX training once per academic year to meet the mandated training requirement.
