Homecoming Award Recipients to speak on campus

2017 MSSU Outstanding Alum Emily (Petty) Dredd and 2017 Distinguished Alum Matt Hall will speak on campus on Friday, Sept. 29.

Dredd, a 2000 graduate with a degree in English, will speak at 10 a.m. Friday in Kuhn Hall, Room 206.  She has worked at the highest levels of government, event production and athletic competition. She oversaw domestic and international events and official visits for President Obama and Vice President Biden. She will speak about how one English alumna has translated her education into real-world opportunities and how English majors might imagine their own lives after graduation.

Hall, a 1986 graduate with a degree in Art, will present a visiting artist’s lecture at 1 p.m. Friday in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. He has had a distinguished career, including serving as art director for DreamWorks Studios and working with director Steven Spielberg on many projects. He created the Battle of Iwo Jima concept art for the film “Flags of Our Fathers” as well as for the “Medal of Honor” video game series. Former President George W. Bush and Prince Charles have original works by Hall in their collections. He will speak about the high points of his career as an artist and art director.

Both presentations are free and open to the public.
