Missouri Southern State University is saddened by the death of one of its student-athletes, Denine Tahbaz, who passed away on Feb. 27, following complications from a tumor.
“We were shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Denine,” said MSSU President, Dr. Alan Marble. “She was a gifted athlete and dedicated student who brought joy to everyone around her. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Missouri Southern campus will be with her family and friends during this difficult time of loss.”
Tahbaz, 22, was a native of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and spent three years on the soccer team at Missouri Southern after transferring from Golden West (Calif.) College. This year, the junior played in 15 matches with three starts, recording four shots. In her career, she saw action in 32 matches with eight starts.
Tahbaz, a geography major at MSSU, is survived by her parents, Michael and Liz Tahbaz, as well as two younger brothers.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later time.
The university will have counselors available for anyone during this time.
