The U.S. Army Jazz Combo of the 399th from Fort Leonard Wood will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, March 9, in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium at Missouri Southern State University.
The group will perform numerous jazz standards as well as more contemporary works.
The band was formed on June 1, 1944, as the 399 Army Service Forces Band in Naples, Italy, and was inactivated in 1947 following a tour of Europe. In 1955, it was reactivated at the U.S. Army Training Center in Fort Leonard Wood. It has had 65 years of continuous service and has been on post longer than any other unit.
Admission is free and open to the public.
In addition to the concert, the Army Jazz Combo will offer a masterclass and clinic for Missouri Southern jazz students at 4 p.m. Monday in Corley Auditorium.
