The All-Employee Welcome Back meeting looked a bit different this year, with two sessions held Aug. 14 in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center in order to allow those attending to properly social distance.

In his opening remarks, MSSU President Dr. Dean Van Galen acknowledged things will look different this fall due to COVID-19, but struck a tone of optimism about what’s to come.

“Certainly, it is a fall semester like no other, and there will be challenges,” he said. “But I hope you share my optimism in what we can accomplish together this academic year.”

He was joined by Dr. Mikh Gunderman, president of Faculty Senate; Debra Schow-Smith, president of Staff Senate; and Haley Ward, president of Student Senate, to preview the upcoming semester and offer a motivational message for the start of Fall 2020.

Ward recognized the work put in by faculty and staff to quickly move classes online when the campus closed in March.

“Each of you had to completely change your teaching medium, and move classes and services online within one week,” she said. “I want to thank you for everything you have done and everything you are currently doing to maintain the quality of education as well as providing a safe learning environment for our students during these difficult times.”
