Several students from Missouri Southern’s Theater Department recently took and passed an Essential Skills for the Entertainment Technician examination offered by the United States Institute for Theater Technology (USITT)
The Basic Terms and Safety examination is one of the tests offered by USITT to provide a uniform set of criteria, basic knowledge and skills across all fields in the technical arts. It’s a prerequisite for all other exams in areas such as rigging, lighting and electrics, costuming and wardrobe technician.
Theater students who passed the exam were Blue Blackburn, Robert Jones, Chelsie Leroy, Bailee Lewis, Michelle Potts, Hulon Smith, Morgan Cantu, and Zoe Musick.
“A passing score on the test is valuable to young professionals as it strengthens and supports their resume in that it gives them a national accreditation as competent technicians when applying for employment and internships,” says Logan Reagan, assistant professor of theater. “The test was not a requirement for our students, so I was pleased to see them take the initiative for it.”
