Plans are underway to celebrate the Oceania Semester this fall.
“The focus will be on Australia and New Zealand, but it’s a region that also includes the Marshall Islands, the Solomon Islands, French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea,” says Dr. Chad Stebbins, director of the Institute of International Studies.
Since 1997, Missouri Southern has organized themed semesters that allow students to explore different cultures.
Among the fall events will be a presentation and recital by New Zealand-born flutist Alex Still; a symphony orchestra and percussion ensemble concert featuring New Zealand composer John Psathas; the International Film Festival; a production by the Theatre Department; and a cooking demonstration by Jay Jay Wolfipie, owner of Aussie Pies in Los Angeles, Calif.
