Missouri Southern State University, in conjunction with the Missouri Health Equity Collaborative (MOHEC), will host a healthcare career expo from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

“The MOHEC consortium consists of numerous entities in the Southwest Missouri region such as Carthage Tech, Franklin Tech, Crowder College, Freeman Health System, Mercy Health System and MSSU,” said Sherry Whiteman, respiratory care educator with MSSU and Franklin Technology Center. “We want to make sure students really know what the healthcare profession offers so they can make informed decisions about their career choices.”

Nearly 50 booths will be set up inside the facility. The morning sessions are aimed at high-school students and will demonstrate skills healthcare providers may actually perform. At 1 p.m., community members will be able to attend the expo, which will also serve as a hiring event.

“This is the second time MSSU has hosted this event (the first was back in January of this year) and we are expecting almost 800 students, which is twice the amount we had the first time,” said Whiteman.
