Ensuring the privacy of student education records is an important priority at Missouri Southern. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law regarding the privacy of student records and the access provided to these records.

“Complying with FERPA: Refining MSSU Specific Everyday Practice and Behavior” is a new training offered by the Registrar’s Office that focuses on university policies and practical behaviors that support compliance with federal mandates protecting students’ privacy.

Training sessions will be offered at noon Wednesday, March 30, and 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in Billingsly Student Center’s Connor Ballroom. Attendees will learn about students’ rights, unintended common violations, how to reduce or avoid violations, the process and cost for filing a complaint, best practices when using educational technology, and improving privacy safeguards with remote work.

All campus personnel who are involved with managing student data are encouraged to attend. Contact HRtraining@mssu.edu to reserve a seat.
