Justin Keller – who has been with the University Police Department for two years – was recently promoted to sergeant.
Police Chief Ken Kennedy said it’s a new position, but one that he’s wanted to fill for several years.
“I had always wanted to create another supervisor position for the night and weekend hours,” he said. “We had an opportunity recently with positions changing and we – myself and Darren Fullerton – decided to go that route.
“We put out the job description and (sought applicants). Keller came out on top. The qualifications for the job were pretty high.”
Before coming to Missouri Southern, Keller served with the Joplin Police Department for 12 years and in the U.S. Air Force for eight years.
“I supervise the four evening shift officers and still teach ALICE (Alert/Lockdown/Inform/Counter/Evacuate) classes,” said Keller. “I love the people here at Missouri Southern and enjoy talking to the faculty, staff and students. I just absolutely love it.”
