Joplin, MO (SNS) – A week filled with baseball, music and other activities is planned at Missouri Southern State University.
International students will learn the fundamentals of America’s pastime on Monday, April 13, while a dedication for the university’s new baseball stadium is set for Saturday, April 18. Other events will include senior recitals, a performance by Missouri Southern’s jazz combos and screenings of the film “American Sniper.”
MONDAY, APRIL 13
International Baseball Clinic: 3 p.m., new baseball stadium. Players and coaches will lead a clinic on the ins and outs of the game for MSSU international students.
TUESDAY, APRIL 14
Funnel Cake Giveaway: 10:30 a.m., campus Oval. Presented by the Campus Activities Board, funnel cake will be available while supplies last.
Baseball vs. Arkansas – Fort Smith: 1 p.m., new baseball stadium.
Junior Piano Recital: 5 p.m., Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall. Junior piano majors Kyle Dickey and Tyler Graves will perform.
Senior Piano Recital: 7:30 p.m., Corley Auditorium. Senior piano major Bethany Mullins will present a recital.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15
Stuff a Lion: 10:30 a.m., Billingsly Student Center. Presented by CAB, students can create a stuffed lion, while supplies last.
Wellness Wednesday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Lion’s Den in Billingsly Student Center. Students can make pill bottle key holders.
Career Services Walk-In Workshop: 12 to 2 p.m., Career Services Office, second floor of Spiva Library. Stop by the workshop for career and resume advice, assistance creating or editing your resume, assistance researching careers, information on job shadowing and internships or resume printing. All services and printing are available free of charge; no appointment is needed.
Softball vs. Rogers State: 4 p.m., Lea Kungle Field.
THURSDAY, APRIL 16
Health Hut: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lion’s Den. The Wellness Department will offer free giveaways.
“American Sniper”: 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. The film is a biopic of Chris Kyle, the most-celebrated sniper in American military history. Presented by CAB, snacks will be provided.
American Brass Quintet: 7 p.m., Corley Auditorium. The quintet was the 2013 recipient of Chamber Music America’s highest honor, and is internationally recognized as one of the premier chamber music ensembles. Presented by Pro Musica. No admission charge; however, donations are appreciated.
FRIDAY, APRIL 17

37 Prime: Spiva Art Gallery. The exhibit by the Focal Point Student Art Club features undergraduate artwork from universities in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Concludes April 17.
