The Robert W. Plaster School of Business at Missouri Southern State University will host the annual Merit Badge University for area Boy Scouts from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, in Plaster Hall.
More than 130 Boy Scouts have registered for the event. This year, the Merit Badge University will offer 18 different badges, including include pottery, disability awareness, citizenship in the nation, entrepreneurship and salesmanship. Those attending will have the opportunity to earn up to two badges during morning and afternoon sessions.
Serving as counselors for the event will be Plaster faculty, staff, alumni and students who are knowledgeable in the topics covered by each badge.
The event serves as a fundraiser for the Missouri Southern chapter of Phi Beta Lambda and the Collegiate DECA club. Fees collected from the event are used, in part, to provide assistance to students in these organizations to attend and compete in state and national competitions.
“This is one of the main fundraisers for the year for PBL/C-DECA,” said Stu Dunlop, assistant professor of marketing and co-advisor to the student groups.
The Ozark Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America will also be holding adult leadership sessions for Scout leaders and those who wish to be approved as leaders, said Dunlop. Those sessions will also take place in Plaster Hall.
