Dr. Gregory Jones, chair of the Indiana University/Purdue University Fort Wayne Department of Music, will present two programs on Friday, Sept. 2, as part of the Great Britain Semester.
“Rockers, Mods and the Birth of the British Invasion” will be offered at 10 a.m. in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. It will examine the economic difficulties and cultural events that propelled a group of talented and charismatic British musicians into the limelight.
At 11 a.m., “Euphoria and Disillusionment: The Rise and Fall of the Counterculture” will look at the developments within the counterculture that swept away the optimism of the 1960. In its place was a bitter sense of entrapment that spawned new music that evoked escapism and resignation.
Both programs are free and open to the public.
