The Chart, the student newspaper at Missouri Southern State University, will host the Missouri College Media Association (MCMA) annual conference this Saturday, April 20.

The conference draws journalism students from across the state to a day-long slate of workshops led by area news professionals.

Chad Hanna, a well-known sports producer from St. Louis, will be featured in a breakout session at 1 p.m. on the third floor of Billingsly Student Center at MSSU.

Other sessions later in the afternoon are by local media professionals on photojournalism, multimedia reporting, advertising, etc., as well as recent graduates.

The highlight of the event is the awards banquet Saturday evening, where MCMA presents awards for the best student work over the past calendar year (2012). The Journalist of the Year, the Photojournalist of the Year and the Adviser of the Year also will be recognized.

The banquet guest speaker will be Dianne Elizabeth Osis, president of the publishing company that owns the Joplin Tri-State Business Journal.
