basketballJoplin, Mo. — Missouri Southern women’s basketball coach Ronda Hubbard has announced the addition of Victor Esparza to round out her coaching staff.

“I’m really excited about this last hire to our staff,” Hubbard said. “Coach Esparza has a ton of experience. Like coach Ressel, he has experience on the women’s side, but has spent the last seven years as the top assistant on the men’s side at OPSU. I was looking for someone who has an array of skills and had experience doing it all. His duties will be multi-faceted, but will certainly include working with our guards, recruiting, scouting, and serving as our Academic Coordinator.”

Esparza comes to Southern after serving as an assistant coach for the men’s program at Oklahoma Panhandle State for the past seven seasons. He also served as the head men’s and women’s cross country coach at OPSU during that time.

At Panhandle, Esparza was responsible for recruiting, player development, scouting and practice planning. He also was in charge of team travel, student-athlete academic progress and film exchange. He got his start in coaching as a student assistant for the 2006-07 season.

As the head coach for the cross country program, Esparza was in charge of everything from recruiting, budgeting, team travel and academics, while also supervising assistant coaches.

“I am thrilled to join the women’s basketball staff at Missouri Southern,” Esparza said. “I am excited to build upon the already successful women’s basketball program and the opportunity to work with two proven winners in coach Hubbard and Ressel.”

Esparza earned a bachelors of science degree from Panhandle State, and his masters in education from East Central University.
