cade-new-xyzDr. Al Cade, Interim Dean of the School of Education at Missouri Southern State University, will be honored at the Alumni Awards Banquet at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville this fall.

The annual event, sponsored by Northwest Alumni Association, begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom, followed by a dinner at 6:45 p.m. and the awards presentation at 8 p.m.  Six graduates will receive recognition.

Dr. Cade received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1983 and Master of Science in 1985, both from Northwest.  He completed his doctorate in 2001 from Saint Louis University.

Dr. Cade began his professional career as an instructor and has continuously been promoted during the last 25 years at Missouri Southern State University.

He will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award.  In 2001, Dr. Cade was inducted into the Northwest Athletic Hall of Fame.

Along with serving on various committees for the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE) and Missouri Advisory Council of Certification for Educators (MACCE) and on the campus level, Dr. Cade directed the development of a diversity committee on Missouri Southern’s campus which now sponsors the Martin Luther King Day of Service.

For seven years he served as vice president and president for the Missouri Association for Blacks in Higher Education (MABHE).  His prior board activities include service with the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri, the City of Joplin Human Rights Commission, and City of Joplin – Schools & Community Facilities Committee.  Currently, Dr. Cade serves on the board for the Miracle League of Joplin and the Southwest Center for Educational Excellence.

One of those at NWMSU who nominated Cade for the award described him as “a leader and role model in all that he does, as well as a person who exemplifies professionalism, dignity and faith.”

“There are so many alumni and friends of Northwest who are doing amazing things in their personal and professional lives, and much of what they do is a direct benefit to Northwest,” said Polly Howard, director of alumni and donor relations. “The annual Alumni Awards Banquet gives us an opportunity to recognize those who love our University and thank them for their contributions in their respective areas.”
