Missouri Southern will sponsor the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event on June 14 at the Robert G. Plaster Sports Complex.
The event, which is an all-night walk, will have a Hawaiian luau theme.
Penny Richeson, AVC catalog clerk at Spiva Library, is coordinating Southern’s effort this year.
“There are 10 to 15 people on a team and we can have multiple teams is departments want to challenge each other,” Richeson said.
The all-night event will include survivor and caregiver walks, and luminaries set up around the stadium track. There will be food vendors and games available to help raise funds.
“We hope to raise $75,000 this year,” Richeson said of the event. “We haven’t had the event on campus since around 2006. It’s been quite a while.”
A Relay for Life planning meeting will be held at noon Tuesday, Feb. 4, in Room 413A in the library. The meeting will be held the first Tuesday of every month.
The MSSU event will cover the Joplin, Carl Junction and Webb City area.
