Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern department of athletics sits in 37th place after the final fall standings of the Learfield Sports/NACDA Directors Cup standings were released by the organization.

The Director’s Cup is sponsored by Learfield Sports and ran by the National Association of College Director’s of Athletics (NACDA). It is given annually to the top athletic department in the country based on NCAA postseason finishes.

The Lions are the top MIAA program at No. 37, with Central Missouri coming in at 46th, Fort Hays at No. 70, Northeastern State at No. 79, Nebraska-Kearney and Southwest Baptist tied at No. 88, Pittsburg State at No. 91, and Central Oklahoma at No. 96, giving the MIAA eight schools in the top 100.

The Lions picked up points from a 17th-place finish from men’s cross country and a 27th place finish from the women’s cross country team at the 2014 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships earlier this month.

The final standings include the sports of football, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, women’s field hockey and men’s water polo. Points are awarded to teams that qualify for the NCAA post season in those sports.
