Joplin, Mo. — Missouri Southern junior guard Taevaunn Prince has been named the MIAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week the league announced today. prince

Prince, a 6-3 native of Toronto, helped the Lions to a 2-0 week with wins over Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western, pushing Southern into second place in the MIAA. Against Northwest Missouri, Prince helped the Lions go on a 13-2 run over the final three minutes of the first half to put Southern up by five at the break.  He went on to score 26 and pull down 13 rebounds in the game for his sixth double-double of the season, playing in all 40 minutes of the game.

At Missouri Western, Prince helped lead a 27-5 run to start the second half to erase a five-point halftime deficit and lead the Lions to the win as he scored 18 and added eight rebounds in that game. For the week, Prince averaged 22 points, 10.5 rebounds, while shooting 46 percent from the field and 94 percent from the free throw line.

The Lions will be in action this Thursday night, traveling to Southwest Baptist for a 7:30 pm tip off.
