A Volunteer Income Tax Assistance team is once again available at Missouri Southern.
Appointments will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday through April 11 (except for March 14, the week of Spring Break) in Room 303 of the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center. Assistance for walk-ins without an appointment will also be available.
The free service is offered for individuals or families who make less than $53,000 per year. Students will be on hand to help prepare and file federal 1040 or 1040-A returns as well as state returns. All volunteers are junior and senior accounting majors and have passed the required Internal Revenue Service tests.
Those needing assistance will need to bring their tax paperwork, driver’s license, a cancelled check or routing number, Social Security cards for everyone in the family, and forms 1095-A, B or C (Affordable Health Care statements).
In 2014, more than 250 tax returns were filed through the VITA program at Missouri Southern, generating a total of $265,469 in refunds.
To make an appointment, call 417-625-9602 or visit www.mssu.edu/vita for more details.
