Joplin, MO (SNS) – Known for his appearances on such shows as “Last Comic Standing” and “Stand-Up Revolution,” comedian Paul Varghese will host the annual MOSO Talent Show, set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11.

Other activities planned for next week at Missouri Southern include screenings of two popular films from 2014, business workshops and the annual Wellness Expo.


Microsoft Excel Level 1 (two-day training): Tuesday and Thursday, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Plaster Hall. Participants will learn how to build, format, save and print Excel workbooks. Each participant will receive a manual and completion certificate. The cost is $119. Details: 417-625-3128.

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1”: 2:30 and 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. Rated PG-13. Presented by the Campus Activities Board; admission is free and snacks will be provided. Rescheduled from the previous week.


Sixth annual Wellness Expo: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Connor Ballroom, third floor of Billingsly Student Center. Events include making first aid and spring break kits, micro-fit assessments, Aqua Massage, class demos and access to the racquetball courts.

Wellness Wednesday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Lion’s Den. Students can make safe spring break kits.

Analyzing & Managing Cash Flow: 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Plaster Hall. The second in a series of three courses, participants will take a close look at where cash comes from, where it’s used in day-to-day business and learn to identify and correct cash flow problems. 2015 MOSO Talent Show: 7 to 9:30 p.m., Taylor Performing Arts Center. Comedian Paul Varghese will host of the annual event sponsored by the Campus Activities Board. Varghese has been seen on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham” and “Stand-up Revolution,” and Showtime’s “Russell Peters Presents.” 


Health Hut: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lion’s Den. The Wellness Department will offer free giveaways during the weekly event.

Career Services Walk-In Workshop: 12 to 2 p.m., Career Services Office, second floor of Spiva Library. Stop by the workshop for career and resume advice, assistance creating or editing your resume, assistance researching careers, information on job shadowing and internships or resume printing. All services and printing are available free of charge; no appointment is needed.

“Into the Woods”: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. The 2014 musical film blends a few classic fairy tales into one. Presented by the Campus Activities Board, admission is free and snacks will be provided. 


Transfer Discovery Day: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Billingsly Student Center. Students who have earned college credit from a college, university, trade, technical, cosmetology or online schools can learn how to continue earning a bachelor’s degree at Missouri Southern.


FAFSA filing help: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Financial Aid Office in Hearnes Hall. The Financial Aid Office will help current students fill out their FAFSA. Students (and parents) will need to bring their 2014 taxes and W-2s along with their FAFSA PIN number, if they have one. Priority deadline is April 1 to be eligible for additional grants and scholarships. Assistance will continue all through March.

“Dreadful 7” Art Exhibit: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Spiva Art Gallery. The 3D art show features three-dimensional artwork, including original works by art faculty members. The exhibit continues through March 28.
