Joplin, MO (SNS) – A donor recognition and dedication ceremony are planned for Saturday, April 18, at Missouri Southern State University’s new baseball stadium.

The unveiling of the donor wall will take place at 12:30 p.m., followed by a ribbon-cutting and dedication at 12:45. The 11th ranked Lions will continue their series against Lincoln University at 1 p.m.

A special pre-game tailgate and dinner are also planned for that day for the project’s donors.

The new stadium includes amenities such as state-of-the-art synthetic turf, regulation lighting, batting cages and bullpens, fan seating for 600, a press box and modern concessions area. The $2.5 million project was made possible by a fundraising campaign by the Missouri Southern Foundation in collaboration with the MSSU Baseball Advisory Committee.

“It’s an inspiring project in that we had so many alumni and community members step forward with financial support,” said Dr. Brad Hodson, executive vice president and executive director of the Missouri Southern Foundation. “We’re looking forward to recognizing those who made it possible and to dedicating one of the most impressive baseball facilities in the MIAA.”

The Lions opened the 2015 season at the new stadium in February, after many years of play at Joplin’s Joe Becker Stadium.

“This was a long time coming for many of our boosters, alumni, coaches, staff and the many friends of Missouri Southern baseball,” said Athletics Director Jared Bruggeman. “This process began many years ago, and to see it come to fruition under such an extraordinary timeline and become such an amazing facility is truly inspirational for the progress of the Athletics Department and the university.”

In the event of inclement weather, the donor recognition and dedication will be rescheduled.
