Joplin, MO (SNS) – Nearly 2,000 area high-school students will attend Sophomore Day on Tuesday, April 28, at Missouri Southern State University.

Students from Joplin, Webb City, Carthage, Carl Junction, Neosho and Seneca will be on hand for the event, which will begin with an opening ceremony at 9:15 a.m. in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.  Following the ceremony, students will be divided into groups for campus tours and activities on the Oval.

Tour stops will include an EMS accident demo, the Spiva Art Gallery, dental lab, foreign language mini-lessons, a mobile crime scene unit and the KGCS-TV station. Students on the oval will be able to explore majors and minors offered at Missouri Southern, play Ultimate Frisbee, contribute to an art mural and take an outdoor dance class.

Prizes will be awarded during the closing ceremony at 11:45 a.m. in Leggett & Platt.

Members of the media are invited to cover the event, as we offer students an educational and entertaining morning in order to showcase our academic programs and amenities. In the event of rain, many of the activities will be moved to Young Gymnasium.
