Joplin, MO (SNS) – “Don’t Cut to the Chase,” the fourth original one-act play festival at Missouri Southern, is set to run Tuesday through Saturday, May 1, in the Bud Walton Theatre.

The 30-minute plays have been written and directed by students enrolled in the Directing II class and range from comedy to drama and tragedy.

Other events scheduled next week include music recitals, an opera workshop and Finals Madness activities for students to enjoy.

MONDAY, APRIL 27

Relaxation Room: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Room 243 of Billingsly Student Center. Students can relax in a massage chair or Zen spot. The room will be available through Friday.

Massage Therapist: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Lion’s Den in BSC. Students can relax via a massage therapist before finals week. The event will continue through Thursday.

Sand Art: 10:30 a.m., Lion’s Den. Students can create their own sand art. There will be 12 colors to choose from while supplies last.

How to Write a Successful Business Plan: 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Plaster Hall. Participants will learn key elements of a business plan including writing=style tips, required contents and how to use it as a management tool. Cost is $39. Details: 417-625-3128.

Faculty Saxophone Recital: 7:30 p.m., Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall. Adjunct instructor Levi Randolph will present a saxophone recital. Free and open to the public.

One-Act Play Festival: 7:30 p.m., Bud Walton Black Box Theatre. General admission is $3 for adults and $1 for senior citizens and high-school students. 

TUESDAY, APRIL 28

Introduction to QuickBooks: 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Plaster Hall. The introductory two-day training will provide an in-depth look at how to use the desktop version of QuickBooks for Windows.  The training will continue on Thursday. Each participant will receive a manual and completion certificate. Cost is $119. Details: 417-625-3128.

MSSU Opera Workshop: 7:30 p.m., Corley Auditorium. Faculty member Dr. Jordan Wilson will present the workshop. Free and open to the public.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29

Predicting Cash Needs: 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Plaster Hall. The third in a series of three, participants in this training will learn to estimate future sources and uses of cash. They will also learn how to analyze those predictions to make more informed decisions. Cost is $69. Details: 417-625-3128. 

Faculty Percussion Recital: 7:30 p.m., Corley Auditorium. Brian Fronzaglia, head of the Music Department, will present the free recital.

THURSDAY, APRIL 30

Health Hut: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lion’s Den. The Wellness Department will offer free giveaways during the weekly event.

Spring Choral Recital: 7:30 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 501 W. Fourth St. The MSSU Choral Department, under the direction of Dr. David Sharlow, will present a spring concert. Free and open to the public.

FRIDAY, MAY 1 

Career Services Walk-In Workshop: 12 to 2 p.m., Career Services Office, second floor of Spiva Library. Stop by the workshop for career and resume advice, assistance creating or editing your resume, assistance researching careers, information on job shadowing and internships or resume printing. All services and printing are available free of charge; no appointment is needed.

Finals Madness: 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Beimdiek Recreation Center in BSC. Students will be able to play laser tag and mini golf, bowl, make tie dye T-shirts and, eventually, eat breakfast.
