Joplin, MO (SNS) – Registration is open for the annual Lifetime Sports Academy at Missouri Southern State University, as well as camps for young basketball, baseball and softball players.

The Lifetime Sports Academy – to be held from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 1-4 – teaches the skills and promotes the appreciation of selected activities, from bowling and archery to Frisbee and racquet sports. The camp is open to children ages 7-12; cost is $85 per child.

Participants will need to bring swimming suits, towels, socks and concession money. All equipment will be furnished by the MSSU Kinesiology Department.

There will be four different men’s basketball camps offered.

The Elite Camp, for grades 10-12, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 7, in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. Cost is $70 per camper.

Shooting camps for grades 2-12 are also planned. Grades 2-6 will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 8-9. Grades 7-12 will meet on Wednesday and Thursday, June 10-11. Cost is $75.

Varsity and junior varsity teams are invited to participate in the team camp, to be held Friday and Saturday, June 5-6. Cost is $250 per team, one day; $400 for two days.

Individual camp for grades 2-6 will meet Monday through Wednesday, June 8-10, and for grades 7-9 on Wednesday through Friday, June 10-12. Cost is $125 per camper; participants should bring a sack lunch.

Women’s basketball camps are planned from June 22-July 1.

Individual camps for girls entering fourth through eighth grades will be held June 22-24. Cost is $230 for participants staying on campus and $180 for commuters.

Shooting camp for fourth through 12th grades will be from 9 3 p.m. on June 25. Cost is $80.

Individual day camp for students in ninth through 12th grades will be from 1 to 5 p.m. June 28. Cost is $40.

Team camps – for varsity, junior varsity, freshmen and junior-high teams will be held June 29-July 1.

Two youth baseball camps focusing on the basic fundamentals of the game are planned for ages 8-12.

The first session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Thursday, May 26-28. The second session will be held June 2-4. Cost is $60.

The camps will cover catching, throwing, running, hitting and pitching. Players should bring their own equipment.

Camps will also be held for softball players.

The Advanced Skills camp, for ages 13-18 will meet on June 1-2. Head coach Bill Gray will offer 10 hours of instruction on advanced techniques and strategies for fast-pitch softball. Participants will also get input from current college athletes.

Cost is $225 for resident campers who will stay in campus housing, or $200 for commuter campers.

The Cub Camp, for younger players ages 6-12, will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday, June 8-10.

Instruction will focus on throwing, catching, hitting, and infield and outfield play. Campers will be grouped by experience and skill level. Cost is $80. Campers need to bring a glove, bat, batting helmet, water bottle and sunscreen.

The Lioness Camp, for ages 12-18, will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 15-16.

Besides regular instruction, there will be skill work for specific positions offered in the afternoon. Cost is $180.
