Joplin, MO (SNS) – Zachary Dodge, a mass communication major at Missouri Southern State University, is one of five scholarship recipients from the Missouri Broadcasters Association (MBA).

Dodge, of Sarcoxie, has won the Donald J. Hicks Scholarship. The award – in the amount of $2,000 – is named in honor of Don Hicks, the association’s president and CEO from 1994 until his retirement in 2013.

Dodge’s application was sponsored by KGCS-TV. Applicants for MBA scholarships must be full-time students or planning to enroll in a broadcast or related curriculum and have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

He has been active in operations at KGCS-TV, assisting with productions and producing special projects. During the Spring 2015 semester, he was recognized as Student Volunteer of the Year.

“We’re proud to have one of our students received this statewide recognition and award,” says Judy Stiles, general manager of KGCS-TV. “This shows how the opportunities presented for students at Southern help prepare them for a future in the broadcast industry.”

Dodge and the other award recipients will be honored during the 2015 Missouri Broadcasters Association Convention and Awards Banquet, to be held Friday and Saturday, June 5-6, at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach.

“We are pleased to be able to award students who are passionate about our industry,” said Mark Gordon, president and CEO of the MBA. “It is our hope that they will continue to study broadcasting and once they graduate, become Missouri Broadcasters.”
