Joplin, MO (SNS) – A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held for the new residence hall complex at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Missouri Southern State University.
Located north of Newman Road and east of International Boulevard, the $14-million, three-story complex features 51 student apartments throughout six buildings.
“The design and amenities reflect a response to what today’s students have come to expect,” says Josh Doak, the university’s residence life director.
Doak says each bedroom has touch-pad entry. Students use codes, rather than keys, to secure their rooms. Each bedroom in the new structure has its own bathroom, and students share common living areas and full kitchens.
Each apartment also has its own washer and dryer as well as Wi-Fi and cable TV.
“Students have their personal privacy, as well as the ability to share and interact with others,” Doak says.
The exterior of the complex includes an open courtyard and common areas, a pedestrian-friendly design and parking.
The Quads (so called because most apartments have four bedrooms) are the first residence halls added to campus since 2001, and are already near capacity for the fall semester.
A ribbon cutting for another new building on campus – the end zone facility at Fred G. Hughes Stadium – will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.
