Joplin, MO (SNS) – Celebrations of school spirit and blueberry popsicles will be offered next week by the Campus Activities Board.
The Lions will take the field against Emporia State in the first game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 3. New this year is a pre-game tailgate concert and free admission to the game for children 12 and under.
Other activities include a lecture as part of the Spain Semester and a performance by music/comedy duo Dakaboom.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 1
Freebie Frenzy: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fishbowl conference room in Billingsly Student Center. A variety of school supplies, toiletries, clothing and other surplus items will be available for Missouri Southern students and employees.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 2

THURSDAY, SEPT. 3
Spirit Photo Booth: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lion’s Den, Billingsly Student Center. Students can celebrate the start of football season by donning green and gold and getting a photo taken.
Lions vs. Emporia State: 7 p.m., Fred G. Hughes Stadium. The AMI Radio tailgate concert series will begin an hour and a half before kickoff, featuring the Kendall James Band.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 4
“De-stereotyping Spain: Sociocultural Aspects That Craft Spaniards (after They Bullfight, Dance Flamenco, and Do Siesta)”:11 a.m., Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Dr. Rubén Galve Rivera, an assistant professor of Spanish at Missouri Southern will present the lecture as part of the Spain Semester.
Dakaboom: 7 p.m., Corley Auditorium. The duo offers a blend of a cappella, loop stations, stand-up and sketch comedy, and crowd interaction. Presented by the Campus Activities Board.
“Pero, Esto es Arte?”: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Spiva Art Gallery. The exhibit, which runs through Sept. 9, features works by students who recently visited Spain.
