Player of the Year Top 50 Watchlist
Joplin, Mo. — Already being named to the top 100 for the Bevo Francis Small College Player of the Year Award, Missouri Southern senior guard Taevaunn Prince has made the next cut of 50, the organization announced today.
Prince has been a five-time MIAA Player of the Week and was named the US Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week last week.
This year, Prince leads the country in scoring, as well as free throws attempted and made and total points. He also ranks 14th in defensive rebounds, 17th in double-doubles, 31st in field goal percentage, 47th in minutes per game, 12th in rebounding, 52nd in total field goals attempted, 12th in total field goals, 24th in total minutes and 8th in total rebounds.
Prince also leads the MIAA in defensive rebounds per game, double-doubles, field goal percentage, free throws made and attempted, points per game, total field goals, total points and total rebounds. He ranks second in rebounds, fifth in free throw percentage, and third in minutes per game.
The MIAA has three on the list of 50 with UNK’s Connor Beranek and Northwest Missouri’s Justin Pitts also making the cut. The organization will cut the list to 25 on March 15 and finalists will be announced on April 1.
Prince and the Lions will be in action this Thursday night as Southern travels to Southwest Baptist.
