will host Missouri Region 6 History Day on Friday, March 11.

More than 200 entries have been received from students in area high schools, junior high school, middle school and home schoolers. Entries will be centered around the theme of “Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History.”

The regional contest – one of nine in the state – will include students from area high schools, junior highs, middle schools and home schools. Winners will have the opportunity to compete in the state contest on April 30 at the University of Missouri-Columbia; winners at the state level will advance to the National History Day contest in June in College Park, Md.

Entries will take the form of research papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries or websites. Students in grades six through eight will compete in the Junior Division; grades nine through 12 in the Senior Division. Judges will include Missouri Southern faculty as well as community volunteers with a special interest in history.

Participating schools include Appleton City R-2, Carthage High School, Carthage Junior High, College Heights Christian School, Joplin North Middle School, Joplin East Middle School, Joplin High School, Mount Vernon Middle School, Neosho Christian School, Neosho Junior High, Neosho High School, Neosho Middle School, Nevada Middle School, Seneca R-7 School, South Middle School and Wheaton R-3 School.

Judging will begin at 9 a.m. and will be completed for most categories by noon. The public is invited to view exhibits on display in Connor Ballroom on the third floor of Billingsly Student Center, and performances and documentaries on the second floor of Webster Hall. An awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium.

The public is invited to visit campus to view exhibits and presentations.
