The Collegiate DECA (C-DECA) Club at Missouri Southern earned several state recognitions at the Missouri State Career Development Conference held recently at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, Mo.
Thirteen higher-education institutions from around the state attended the conference. It included competitions and career-building opportunities for participants.
Dillon Walker, a graduate student from Webb City, was the defending national champion in the accounting event. He earned the state champion title in Accounting Performance as well as the top score on the accounting exam given to each participant.
Nathan Teeter, a freshman from Joplin, and Thomas Vernon, a freshman from Neosho, took third place in Business Ethics.
Students earning proficiency awards were: Emmalee Smith, sophomore, Carthage, Human Resource Management; Teeter, Marketing Management; Vernon, along with Kat Wallace and Colt Craig, both sophomores from Webb City, Sports and Entertainment Marketing; and Alison Sauer, junior, Carl Junction, Retail Management.
The Missouri Southern C-DECA Quiz Bowl team took third place in their event, fielding questions from management, marketing and financial categories.
Team members were: Michael Flater, senior, Fort Scott, Kan.; Kyle Prisock, senior, Joplin; Volodymyr Dukov, sophomore, Ukraine; Viktoryia Johnson, senior, Belarus; Katelyn Patterson, junior, Sarcoxie; Nathan Teeter, Dillon Walker, Emmalee Smith and Colt Craig.
Award winners qualified to represent Missouri Southern during the International Career Development Conference, to be held April 16-19 in Washington, D.C.
DECA and its collegiate equivalent, C-DECA, prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in a variety of business related fields in high schools and colleges around the globe.
