The MSSU Ceramics Department and the Southern Clay student group will present the Spring 2017 Student Pottery Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 4-5, in Billingsly Student Center.

The sale will feature hundreds of microwavable, oven- and dishwasher-safe pottery, as well as sculptural objects. The works on display will include a full spectrum, from beginners all the way to semi-pro and professional-level pottery.

“This exhibition and sale of pottery is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn and develop skills needed to make a living as an artist,” said Frank Pishkur, chair of the Art Department. “How to structure a sale, how to price work, how to set up, develop, and present an exhibit are all necessary skills that take time and practice to master.

“At the same time, the sale is a good opportunity for students to recoup some of the material costs they expended during the semester creating the work. In essence, every artwork that someone purchases from a student is a small scholarship to that student.”

A percentage of the proceeds will also be used directly for purchasing tools and equipment for the ceramics program, visiting artist presentations, or to offset the costs for student travel to professional conferences.
